Why you need myPhoto

myPhoto is a software package that intends to eliminate the effort required to share your digital photos with friends and family. Apple's iPhoto has made it phenomenally easy to manage a rich photo collection for Mac users of all backgrounds. However, if you have ever tried to share your photos with others, you have more than likely discovered that there are countless options available to you, but almost every one of them is a frustrating process that requires more time expended by you. This extra effort comes in the form of cost, selecting photos to upload, exporting photos every time you have something new, resizing photos, re-entering captions you already entered in iPhoto, and other nuisances that you have to endure every time something in your photo collection changes. myPhoto eliminates these hassles so you can focus on the fun part of using iPhoto: taking pictures and sharing them with others.

What is myPhoto

myPhoto is a program that will generate a full-featured photo album on your web site for you. Mac OS X comes with a web server pre-installed (called Apache) and myPhoto both configures and activates this server and generates a full featured PHP-based web site. This web site is always up-to-date and features all of the meaningful data from iPhoto you'd want on your web site--your albums, captions, a search engine, etc. It runs off of your Mac at home (iMac, G4, G5, Mini--whatever!) using your existing Internet connection and is online when you are. If you're worried that you don't have a web site yet, it's ok--install myPhoto and you will. All you have to do is plug in your digital camera, import your photos as you normally would into iPhoto, and your photos are on your web page! And what did you have to do to put them there? Simply install myPhoto. A one time thing. It's that easy. With myPhoto, there will be:

  • no exporting every time you have new photos you want to put online
  • no paid subscriptions
  • no messing with HTML or needing to know anything about making a web page
  • no limits imposed on you as to how many photos you can share
  • no having to retype the captions you did in iPhoto in yet another photo organizer program
  • no having to run some extra plugin, remote, or clunky web site to syncronize iPhoto with your web album
  • no having to shrink your photos down to some tiny preset size

Once installed, kick back and let myPhoto keep your photo gallery fresh. Share iPhoto.

And as you can see in my personal photo album, it looks pretty good for something that takes no effort on your part. Aside from being packed with features that will make you wonder how you ever got by without it, it's also free.

Install. Take photos. Share iPhoto. As simple as that. So what are you waiting for?
