Future
Next on the agenda is myPhoto 2 which will bring major changes. The full story isn't below, but if you have something in mind that you don't see below, email me. Just keep in mind, I am a student and I make close to no money off of this, so this isn't exactly my first priority so no guarantees as to when it'll be done. I'll try to keep updates coming out at a reasonable pace...Also, if you're interested in beta testing future versions, submit your profile to sign up.
Future features
Keep in mind that none of these are guaranteed for future releases and this list does not by any means cover every idea I have planned. Feedback on them might help decide whether or not they happen.
- myPhotoAssistant lays the groundwork for much more flexibility in how cache rebuilding works and where it can get and save data. So your iPhoto data could be stored wher ever and your myPhoto folder could also be where ever (perhaps on a separate server--we'll see).
- Add a setting so that you can block photos or albums by default based on some rule (i.e. any photos in album x or with keyword y)
- Add a more robust Print button (i.e. something along the lines of Print to Fotowire or Shutterfly [Shutterfly has agreed to allow myPhoto integration, so it will happen] perhaps so that users without photo printers can get quality prints.)
- Allow viewers to choose what language myPhoto is in (of course, more languages would help)
- Add some SQL-based funcationality such as view counters, user comments posted to each photo, etc
- Allow search queries to be "narrowed" down better (i.e. search only by Date, search only in this album, etc)
- PHP 5 compatibility
Bugs/stupid things to address
- While adding a photo to the block list removes it from the photo album that myPhoto generates, keep in mind that it is still available on your web server. I have done all that I can to make it pretty much impossible for viewers to see an image that you've blocked, but if you have some photo that is so sensitive that you would absolutely die if anybody else saw it on your web site, by all means, take it out of your iPhoto Library and put it somewhere safe--NOT in your Sites folder. I am not responsible for any embarrassment you may cause yourself. You have been warned.
- In full-sized image mode, clicking on the Email button appears to work just fine except for when the person clicking is using IE 5 or OmniWeb (both on the Mac) in which case the link that is emailed is either incomplete for not entirely correct (a troublesome question mark comes out as %3F or the link gets truncated)
